Champions League Group Stage Roundup

Time to see how I did with my group stage predictions (see the post from September, aptly titled "Champions League Group Stage). Or more likely, time to prove what a fucking moppet I am. Here goes...

Group A-
Predicted: Bayern Munich, Manchester City
Actual: Bayern Munich, Napoli
Yeah, yeah, I said Napoli would bottom the group. I had Bayern right though, so that must count for something?


Group B-
Predicted: Inter Milan, CSKA Moscow
Actual: Inter Milan, CSKA Moscow
No real surprises with the end results here, but the crafty Turks of Trabzonspor made a good go of it. Score two points for me!


Group C-
Predicted: Manchester United, Benfica
Actual: Benfica, FC Basel
No comment. Still sick about it. I mean really, what the fuck?


Group D-
Predicted: Real Madrid, Lyon
Actual: Real Madrid, Lyon
Lyon almost spoiled this pick, given the group table going into the last group matchday, but an Ajax loss and a 7-goal haul from the French side conspired to make me look clever. Allez!


Group E-
Predicted: Chelsea, Leverkusen
Actual: Chelsea, Leverkusen
Hot damn! I'm on a roll!


Group F-
Predicted: Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal
Actual: Arsenal, Marseille
Arsenal are a vastly different team than they were when I wrote the original post. They looked good in the group stage, and have the potential to make it deep into the competition.


Group G-
Predicted: Porto, Shaktar Donetsk
Actual: APOEL, Zenit St. Petersburg
Screwed the pooch on that one, didn't I? Oh well, I admitted from the start that I knew very little about any of these clubs.


Group H-
Predicted: Barcelona, AC Milan
Actual: Barcelona, AC Milan
Who didn't predict this?

Overall I went 11 for 16 on picks. Not bad, I guess. Round-of-16 predictions to come once the draw occurs. Stay tuned!
